In 2003, Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) entered into a cooperation agreement with the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). This agreement entails that UMSL work with GUST to ensure the quality of academic programs, recruit staff and develop the various GUST academic and non-academic departments. A key part of this cooperation is for UMSL to assist GUST with quality assurance and provide advice regarding academics, student services, curriculum and course review processes. With eighteen years of collaboration, we are proud of the successful partnership between the UMSL and GUST under the supervision of the Kuwait Private Universities Council (“PUC”).
UMSL is an urban public research university established in 1963 composed of six colleges – Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Honors, Nursing and Optometry with 16,000 students and one of four universities in a four campus state-wide system. It is a Tier 1 national research university ranked 126 among public universities. Offering 47 undergraduate programs, 7 pre-professional programs, 33 master’s degree programs, 14 doctoral programs and one professional program, UMSL degree programs include a strong general education core as well as specialized courses in respective fields of study. UMSL’s College of Business Administration enjoys dual accreditation in business and accounting placing the college in the top five percent nationally. UMSL’s teacher preparation programs earned top ratings in the Missouri Department of Education’s annual performance report.
GUST, with UMSL, continues to grow and support the educational, civic and professional aspirations of Kuwait in accordance with its national goals for the twenty-first century. GUST seeks UMSL’s support in all areas of its academic and institutional development, including but not limited to:
The GUST-UMSL 2+2 Program enables students to begin their undergraduate degree program at GUST and complete it at UMSL. This program provides students the opportunity to complete one of the many degree programs not currently available at GUST.
In the 2+2 Program, students complete the first two years of general education requirements at GUST. Upon completion of their sophomore year, 2+2 students transfer to UMSL to complete upper-division classes. Subject to degree and major requirements, general education credits earned at GUST are transferable toward a degree at UMSL. Upon completion of the remaining degree requirements at UMSL, 2+2 students will earn a degree issued by UMSL.
This program is ideal for students desiring international experience and the opportunity to take courses in the United States, without the commitment of living abroad for four years. It is also a desirable program for students wishing to specialize in one of the many degree programs offered at UMSL.
If a GUST student would like to transfer to continue their undergraduate studies at UMSL, they must meet the following eligibility criteria:
The deadline to submit all required admission documents to UMSL for the start of the Fall academic semester is early June of each academic year. If a student is interested and meets the above criteria, they must contact the Office of International Programs at [email protected] as soon as possible in order to complete the required procedures prior to the deadline.
Gulf University for Science and Technology’s Summer Scholarship program was specifically established and funded to reward outstanding GUST students with opportunities for personal and academic growth. Each year, GUST offers its students a limited number of competitive Summer Scholarships to enrich their academic experience through international study.
GUST Summer Scholarship covers: tuition at UMSL (6 credit hours), economy round-trip airfare to St. Louis, on-campus housing at UMSL, visa processing fees, textbook expenses, and a support allowance for meals and transportation. To be considered for the GUST Summer Scholarship, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Interested candidates are required to submit a completed application form, personal statement, official transcript and two letters of recommendation from GUST faculty. An annual scholarship deadline is announced for each academic year. Interested students should visit the Office of International Programs’ website:

During the 2006-2007 academic year, GUST’s Board of Trustees initiated the annual Faculty Fellowship Program to encourage collaborative research initiatives between GUST and UMSL faculty. The program was created to support exceptional faculty in making contributions to GUST and the larger academic community in the Gulf region. This program is administered through the Office of International Programs and is one of several initiatives aimed at fostering increased levels of academic cooperation with UMSL.
To be eligible for the GUST Faculty Fellowship, candidates must be full-time faculty members at GUST with a commitment to research and creativity. Faculty fellows are also required to have already established ties with UMSL faculty and the ability to spend a minimum of five weeks in the United States to conduct collaborative research.
